As we move into the middle of May I’m excited to share some updates on what I’ve been working on and what’s coming soon. I’m working on three separate projects outside of my day job at Pax8: Pricing strategies/calculator, AI thought leadership, and the launch of a new podcast. Let’s dive in.

Project 1: Pricing Calculator for MSPs

One of the most common questions I get from MSPs is about pricing—how to structure it, how to calculate it, and how to ensure profitability. To address this, I’m building my own pricing calculator that will help you define your stack and determine what you should charge. Here’s what it will include:

  • Core stack components: A list of essential tool categories (without specific tool recommendations as those change frequently and are heavily dependent on your client need).
  • Cost and markup calculations: Enter your costs, desired markup, and margin; and the tool will do the math for you.
  • Service pricing: Guidance on hourly rates, expected hours per endpoint, and additional fees like network or location costs.

The goal is to help you build pricing with your desired margin in mind, rather than starting with what you think you can sell and working backward.

You can look forward to seeing the video and the tool by the first week of June.

Project 2: AI Thought Leadership Update

A few months ago I released a video about using thought leadership as a marketing opportunity for generating leads.

As a follow-up to that video, I’ve been working on a presentation and video about AI, and while I’m a bit behind schedule. I’m happy to announce it will also be released before the end of May. This resource will cover:

  • AI tools and best practices: Including prompting, security, and data protection.
  • Risks of public AI tools: Ensuring your clients are aware of potential vulnerabilities.
  • Use cases: Practical examples of how MSPs and their clients can leverage AI in their businesses.

This will be a valuable resource for anyone looking to position themselves as thought leaders in the AI space.

You will be able to grab the presentation template and use it for your own purposes.

Project 3: New Podcast: Tales from the Trenches

I’m thrilled to announce the launch of a new podcast with my good friend Natalie Hell, called Tales from the Trenches: Wisdom from the MSP Frontlines. Each week, we’ll dive into stories and lessons learned from peer groups, sharing insights and conversations that matter to MSPs. It’s a chance to hear real-world experiences and gain actionable wisdom.

Bonus: Webinar on Managing Remote Workforces

I recently recorded a webinar with the team at ScaleYourMSP.com, where we discussed best practices for managing remote teams—both domestic and international. Whether you’re hiring someone in a different state or working with a service like Scale, we covered the challenges and solutions. You can find that video here: Managing Your Remote Employees 101.

Recent Videos

My goal has always been to release one video per week, and I’ve fallen a little behind in this as of recent. That said, I’ve been releasing videos on the regular. Here are a few recent videos that might be of interest:

Connect With Me

If you are coming to Pax8 Beyond in June let me know. I’ll be at the Gaylord Hotel all week attending and speaking at the conference. Immediately after the conference our Pax8 Peer Groups will take over a wing of conference rooms for a couple days of Peer Group goodness.

As always, I’m here to help you navigate the challenges of running an MSP business. Consider subscribing to stay updated on these resources and more. Here’s to a productive and insightful year ahead!
